A left handed person does not mean he will play guitar with his left hand. Some people feel more comfortable playing with left hand hence they play a left-handed guitar. However, there are some differences between right hand players and left hand players.

In terms of design, there are already several differences. The position of the strings for right-handed guitar has the low E string on top and high E string at the bottom. If you use the same guitar for a left hander, the position would be upside down, with high E on top and low E at the bottom. Hence, the strings of a left-handed guitar have to be modified in a reverse arrangement for the correct position.

The bridge of the guitar is different as well. The bridge is used to hold the strings and at the bridge you may notice some small curves to fit the strings. These curves are designed according to the thickness of the string and therefore the reversed version of bridge is required to fit those strings.

Being a left-handed guitarist can be advantageous in some ways. Believe it or not this type of guitarists can press chords and complicated fingering easier compared to right-handed guitarists. It is due to the fact that their coordinated hands make the positioning easy.

However, there are not many left-handed guitars available in the market. They are low in demand as there are not many left-handed players. This results the model to be expensive and some of the players could not afford it. If you are determined enough, there are actually forums and websites that teach you on building a left-handed guitar on your own and it does not cost much.

In terms of skills and playing, left-handed guitarists are more advantageous compared to right-handed guitarists. So, never let this issue be a barrier as there are so many solutions to it.
